Pope Francis has officially appointed Monsignor Antonio Guido Filipazzi as Nigeria Apostolic Nuncio.
Rev. Fr. Ralph Madu (secretary General, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria) made this known in a statement at Abuja, he also disclosed that the appointment was made on Tuesday, April 26 by His Holiness, Pope Francis I.
The new Nigeria Nuncio – Monsgr. Filipazzi is the archbishop of Sutri and the current apostolic nuncio in Indonesia. He was born in Melzo (Milan- Italy) on October 8, 1963 and was ordained a priest on October 10, 1987.
He is a doctorate graduate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy.
The statement by released by the secretariat reveals that:
Monsignor Antonio Guido Filipazzi entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See in 1992 and has served in the Apostolic Nunciature in Sri Lanka (1992 to 1995), Austria (1995 to 1998), Germany (1998 to 2003), Indonesia and the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State (2003 to 2011).
The new Nigeria Nuncio speaks multiple languages including Italian, English, French and German. He begins his work in Nigeria as the Nuncio immediate.
